Energy from Waste in Wales 2008
Venue: All Nations Centre, Cardiff
"Wales hopes to achieve self-sufficiency in renewable energy within 20 years and this year's Energy from Waste in Wales conference looks at the Welsh Assembly Government's current strategy to achieve this goal. It also examines the difficulties of obtaining both the planning consents and financing required for future developments and the importance of gaining public support for new installations and technologies.

The conference showcases several methods of disposal from incineration to the production of hydrogen fuel, the production of combined heat and power from waste and the assessment of both large and small units for providing a stable, secure and constant fuel supply.

LARAC/WLGA/WAG Seminar: Role of Education and Awareness in Achieving Recycling/Composting Targets in Wales
Venue: MaesMawr Hall Hotel, Caersws (Mid Wales)
Following last year’s successful seminar looking at food waste and a Wales waste strategy discussion, the Welsh Assembly Government (WAG) has once again asked LARAC to organise another one-day seminar in conjunction with the WLGA. This year’s seminar focuses on the issues surrounding educating and awareness-raising amongst the public and how this will contribute towards achieving the high targets set for Welsh local authorities by WAG.

CIWM Cymru Wales Site Visit at CWM Environmental Ltd
Venue: CWM Environmental Ltd MRF and Landfill Site
CWM is a Local Authority Waste Disposal Company (LAWDC) established in 1997 and wholly owned by Carmarthenshire County Council, however it operates as an ‘arms length’ company.
CWM continually strives to improve in diverting as much waste as possible from landfill. To meet the demands of its shareholder, householders in the County and Traders, the Company has taken a proactive stance in meeting, greeting, educating and offering a service which enables optimisation for the recovery of recyclable materials. This Company has achieved growth and recognition both within the community and on a national level and received, in February this year, the Severnside Annual Award for Best Recycling Service Supplier (overall category winner)...
