CIWM at RWM: one to ones with industry experts and the latest on the 'right Waste, right Place' campaign

Experts from across the sector will be on the CIWM stand (Stand 4M10-N11) to provide a Resource and Waste Clinic at RWM in partnership with CIWM 2016.Over 30 senior CIWM members will be available for a one-to-one sessions lasting up to half an hour, providing advice on most aspects of resource and waste management.

The line-up of experts includes Gill Weeks OBE, Alan Holmes, Senior Advisor at the Environment Agency, Lee Marshall, chief executive of LARAC, Dr Barbara Leach, Head of Research & Evaluation at WRAP, and Mark Bedford, Director at Wardell Armstrong ,and a host of topics will be covered including:

  • Circular Economy and Resource Efficiency;
  • Procurement, Partnerships, Austerity, Contracts & Efficiencies;
  • Hazardous Waste
  • Food Waste
  • Collection systems and Harmonisation
  • Technology optionsWaste Crime and Duty of Care

Other highlights on the stand will include information about the ‘right Waste, right Place’ campaign, which has been launched to help businesses understand what is expected of them and offers practical advice on how to manage waste safely and efficiently. Run by the Environmental Services Association (ESA), the campaign is supported by the Environment Agency (EA) and CIWM, which has co-funded the second phase of the campaign with Environmental Services Association Education Trust (ESAET). It has already attracted the support of a collection of official ‘ambassadors’ spanning various sectors, including local authorities, associations such as the Federation of Small Businesses, waste management companies, housebuilders, construction companies, and charities including the National Trust.

At the show, the campaign will be publishing a booklet to provide an overview of the research and a guide to how ambassadors and other businesses can become involved. It will also be launching a targeted ‘push’ on the construction sector. Those interested in finding out more can visit the CIWM and ESA stands or attend two sessions in the local authority theatre focused on waste crime, Duty of Care and the campaign:

  • Weds 10.45-11.15 A vision for waste: making sure the right waste is dealt with in the right place, by the right people
