Chartered Institution of Waste Management /IWM Business Services Ltd
Review and update of Waste Awareness Certificate training course
Invitation for Expression of Interest

Background

IWM Business Services Ltd is the commercial subsidiary of the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management (CIWM). IWM Business Services organises events on behalf of the CIWM which include conferences, gala dinners, seminars and awards events as well as a full public scheduled training programme.

IWM Business Services Ltd have identified the need to review and update the aims, objectives, content and material of their training product - the Waste Awareness Certificate.

Waste Awareness Certificate

This course was launched in 2003, and is aimed primarily at waste producers. It gives a foundation level introduction to responsibilities for waste within the workplace/business and gives staff of all levels the basic understanding that how waste is handled, impacts financially, environmentally and legally. Key areas covered include:

  • Understand the importance of being waste aware
  • Learn about different types of waste
  • Know your legal responsibilities for waste
  • How to conduct a waste audit to identify savings
  • How to reduce, reuse and recycle waste
  • Learn about disposal routes for remaining wastes
  • Deal with waste safely
  • Identify sources of help

The course is delivered through a network of approved centres and trainers across the UK and is certificated by the CIWM

Now that this product is over 8 years old, the requirement to fully review all aspects of the course is overdue and the overall aim is to create an updated version that reflects developments in wastes and resource management as well as the changing world and obligations that waste producers find themselves challenged with.
