Waste Training Services (WTS) have developed a series of on-line training programmes, or e-learning, to help you understand the requirements of the key environment and waste legislation within the UK.

Because the training is web-based and delivered on-line, you can study when and where you wish and at your own pace; there is no need to spend time away from the office and hotel costs are avoided. Many people find this an ideal way to study for a COTC qualification (through WAMITAB) and for a better understanding of hazardous waste management.

How the Training Works
Candidates download a course fact pack, and are then taken through a series of narrated modules that vary in size and content according to the chosen course. The fact pack provides information to support the on-line training material. Courses are presented as a number of modules and each module covers a specified element of training, with a self-test element at the end of each module.

The modules comprise animated slides in Mpeg video format and are displayed via the PCs chosen video player. All standard players allow pause, rewind and forward so the trainee can review any slide at any time.

When all modules have been successfully completed, the course is complete and the user name and password will cease to be valid and a certificate will be issued.

See below for payment options.

Title: Continuing Competence Training
Cost:
£250 + VAT
Synopsis: In the waste management industry, those who have responsibility for site operations must be judged to be competent. This competency is demonstrated through a number of ways, including the Certificate of Technical Competence (COTC). A new requirement is for ALL existing competent persons to pass the first Continuing Competence Test before the 1st of March 2012.

Gaining the required knowledge to pass the test is a self managed process. This on-line training package has been designed to provide the information that will allow you to undertake the generic elements of the test with confidence. It is based on the WAMITAB syllabus and addresses the various elements in a structured programme; this splits the syllabus into a number of discreet modules and allows you to study for the test in a relaxed manner and at your own pace.

Module 1 - Duty of Care and Wastes Acceptance
Module 2 - Hazardous Waste
Module 3 - Environmental Permitting (including Quality Protocols)
Module 4 - WEEE
Module 5 - Environment Protection
Modules 6 and 7 - Health and Safety
Module 8 - Hazardous Waste Treatment and Transfer

There is a multiple choice test at the end of each module that must be passed before moving on to the next module.
Please note that in order to take the actual test you need to visit the WAMITAB website.

Title: Healthcare Wastes: Segregation for Cost Efficient Management
Cost :
 £90 + VAT
Synopsis: An independent report has estimated that the NHS could save £5.5M per year through more cost-effective wastes management, while the Royal College of Nursing has recommended that all staff involved in handling healthcare wastes should be given training in the risks associated with healthcare waste, its segregation, handling, storage and collection.

This two-module course identifies the key characteristics of healthcare wastes and how to segregate them for cost-efficient management.

It is intended to help all those who manage/handle healthcare wastes to understand the colour-coding system so that wastes management can be undertaken safely, effectively and in a cost-efficient manner.

It does not address issues relating to wastes definition, nor to the coding and classifying of waste.
