Mike Bland FCIWM Mike is a Fellow of the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management and was Chairman of the London & Southern Counties Centre from 2003 to 2005. Since 2006 he has been the Honorary Secretary & Treasurer for the Centre. Mike's career has provided him with experience in environmental management in local government with the Greater London Council and the London Waste Regulation Authority and in the private sector with the Mott MacDonald Group. Mike was Director of Wastes Management at Mott MacDonald and a Director on the Board of London Waste Action and is currently a Director of Hopeman Associates Ltd. |

Peter Ager FCIWM Peter was President of CIWM in 2002/03. He was Chairman of the London & Southern Counties Centre from 1991 to 1993 and Chairman of the Association of London Cleansing Officers between 1986 and 1991. As a General Councillor he has served on most of CIWM's committees. Peter's career in wastes management was predominantly spent in local government since starting his career as a trainee at Thurrock UDC in 1968. Between 1984 and 2008 he worked at the City of London where he introduced the Clean City Awards Scheme and assisted the City in winning Britain's Cleanest City Award twice. In 2008 he retired from the position of Cleansing Services Director. He is currently Municipal Support Consultant with Gordon Mackie Associates Ltd.

Chris O'Brien MCIWM Chris entered the wastes management industry working for the Greater London Council (GLC) initially supervising civic amenity sites and progressing to manage transfer stations. After the GLC he worked as Senior Recycling Development Officer for the London Borough of Camden, establishing a civic amenity site and introducing borough-wide recycling initiatives. Chris joined Grundon in 1988 as a senior member of their sales team, and was subsequently promoted to Recycling manager, responsible for the design and implementation of their innovative MRF at Colnbrook. Chris now works as a general wastes management consultant and WAMITAB assessor. He undertakes work for wastes management companies, the public sector and waste producers.

Malcolm Sharp FCIWM
He has been a General Councillor of the Institution for most of the last 14 years and a Centre Councillor for more than 20 years. He is a member of the Finance, Executive and Corporate Governance and Professional Ethics committees and chairs the Constitution Review Committee. |

Nick Patterson MCIWM Nick is the Immediate past Chairman for L&SC Centre Council. He has served on the London & Southern Counties Centre Council for over 11 years both as an elected and co-opted member and recently completed a two year term as Chairman of the Centre. Nick was employed by Veolia ES UK Ltd until 2009 and in his 20 years with them, managed the City of London, Heathrow and Brent Contracts. He is therefore, well versed in the working experiences and capabilities of the private sector and the operational needs and expectations of the public and private sectors. This background provides a valuable contribution to the balance of the Centre Council

Nick Crick FCIWM Nick has dual qualifications as a chemist and economist and has worked in the field of wastes management for more than 30 years. For much of this period, he held positions in senior management with Cleanaway Limited, now part of Veolia Environmental Services. He has been a waste management consultant for the past twenty years, during which time he has worked in more than 40 countries. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institution and has published and presented more than 20 papers in 10 countries.

Euston Ling MCIWM Euston is a chartered waste manager with over 18 years of experience in the UK and international waste management and sustainable resource sector. Working as a waste management professional, he has been heavily involved in providing technical advice to local authorities and private organisations throughout the UK, particularly in the area of procurement and numerical modelling. He has produced numerous business cases, resource management reports, and waste management blueprints for local and international projects. Prior to working as a waste consultant, Euston worked for the major public sector waste management company in NSW and was responsible for delivering waste sorting, processing, and disposal arrangements for the Sydney 2000 Olympics. In his current role as Technical Manager for the North London Waste Authority, he is responsible for the technical aspects of the Authority's procurement of a treatment solution for municipal waste and recycling, along with the off-take of solid recovered fuel to generate renewable energy.

Ian Dudding MCIWM Ian is currently Vice Chairman of the Centre. For the five years prior to 2009 he was involved with the local NGG group and then formally co-opted to the Centre Council. Ian continues to promote Wastes Management activities in the Southern Counties. He is a Civil Engineer by background and leads the Wastes Management Infrastructure Team at Capita Symonds Ltd. Prior to this he was the Wastes Treatment & Disposal Manager at West Sussex County Council. Ian was one of the first people to obtain the ISWA International Waste Manager qualification, and is also a Fellow of CIWEM, sitting on their national Waste Management Panel.

Barry Dennis FCIWM (Immediate Past President) Barry is the Director General of the Environmental Services Association (ESA), which is the trade body that represents the waste management, recycling and secondary resources industry here in the UK. He has been a General councillor for CIWM for many years and is the Chairman of the Finance committee. He has been Chairman of the London and Southern Counties centre and is also a director of IWM Business Services. He is a director and trustee of Wamitab and is also its treasurer. He worked very closely with Government in the late 1960s helping write legislation controlling the skip hire industry. This now appears in the Highways Act. |

Barry Sheppard MCIWM Barry has worked for the Environment Agency since its formation in 1996 and isbased at Wallingford in Oxfordshire. Prior to the EA's formation he was a waste regulator for Oxfordshire County Council. When the EA took over this role, he became an Area Waste Manager, then an Environment Protection Manager and finally an Area Environment Manager as the role widened to include water quality, contaminated land and enforcement in addition to waste regulation and permitting. In 2004 he moved to National Operations to lead on a variety of waste related projects such as the national implementation of co-disposal ban and waste acceptance criteria (WAC) for hazardous wastes, requirement for pre-treatment of non haz wastes, End of Life Vehicles and Ozone Depleting Substances. Barry has also worked closely with DEFRA on regulation of waste brokers and spent the last year (2010) on a DEFRA project looking specifically at compliance issues around MRF and WEEE waste streams. Currently he is the Environmental Permitting Manager within National Operations overseeing the continued implementation of the Environmental Permitting Regulations |

W K (Bill) Townend OBE FCIWM Bill is a Fellow of the Institution and was President 1999 -2000. In December 1997 he was appointed an Officer of the Order of British Empire . He is currently an International Environmental Advisor, Consultant and Lecturer and Associate Editor of Waste Management and Research. He was head of the GLC Waste Disposal Operations when it was abolished . He joined the London Waste Regulation Authority and was its Deputy Director when it was absorbed into the Environment Agency in April 1996. He has had considerable international experience working with the World Health Organisation (WHO) and many other international aid agencies in many countries in Europe the Middle and Far East and South America. In appreciation of many years dedicated service as Founder and Chairman of the Healthcare Wastes Working Group he was elected an Honorary Member of the International Wastes Management Association (ISWA) His other appointments have included: - Joint Deputy Chairman of the Waste Management Industry Training and Advisory Board Past Chairman of the London and Southern Counties Centre Past Chairman of the CIWM Education and Training Standing Committee Founder Chair of the Interpol Environmental Crime Group (UK) |

Sarah Dickinson MCIWM Sarah is currently working as Waste Minimisation Co-ordinator for the West London Waste Authority (WLWA) covering six London boroughs. Her work involves writing and implementing waste prevention strategy, communications and the website which is focused on what you can do to prevent waste and reuse items. Over the last 10 years she has worked for a variety of local authorities where she designed and implemented service improvements such as introducing comingled recycling, services for flats above shops and blocks of flats. Sarah has taken part in CIWM activities since 2003. When she moved to London in 2005 she joined the L&SCC new generation group coordinators. She had her professional interview in 2008 to become a Chartered Waste Manager. Sarah also takes part in the waste prevention and Health and Safety Special Interest Groups as the industry moves from waste to resources.
