Teaser TextMore commonly a debate surrounding a football team’s selection policy, the question of rotation has surfaced in the form of waste collection in Nijmegen, as Tina Benfield, reporting for ISWA, explains A recent meeting of the Collection and Transportation Working Group saw a trip to Nijmegen, the Netherlands. DAR, the main organisation working with the local authority to deliver the collection service in Nijmegen, hosted the meeting. Key issues concerning waste collection in Europe include manual handling and the productivity of the collection service. Nijmegen, and especially DAR, is looking at including job rotation into the role of refuse collection crews, which is being considered in many areas of the Netherlands to fulfil the rules of health and safety and staff welfare. There is a “standard” for the workforce in waste collection called “P90 Norm” meaning that 90 percent of the industry can carry out the labour without higher risk for their health. The “Norm” has set the standards for the maximum amount of units and tonnes to be loaded by the labour force. Age also has been taken in to account
