A Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is a process of gathering and presenting information of the likely effects on the environment of major development “projects”. The process includes analysing the likely effects on the environment, recording those effects in a report and undertaking a public consultation exercise on the report in order to enable decision makers to take environmental issues into consideration before permitting a “project” to go ahead. Such major projects include the construction of motorways, airports, factories, housing developments
