Irish firm, SCFI, has been selected by InterTradeIreland as a Business Ambassador for the Cork region, following a successful all-island innovation project using its AquaCritox technology, which provides a sustainable solution for wastewater treatment and sludge disposal
The company was commended at an event in Dublin, which recognises SMEs that have excelled through North/South trade and innovation. Hosted by Minister Richard Burton TD, (Minister for Enterprise, Jobs and Innovation) alongside over 80 TDs and Senators.
Ambassadors were also invited to meet President Mary McAleese at an exclusive reception to mark their achievements, where she described the companies as 'Champions of the future and leaders of change.'
SCFI's ongoing work with InterTradeIreland has seen them complete a highly successful North/South innovation project, run in conjunction with Northern Ireland firms Williams Industrial Services and Cleanfields. The project, which received over £80,000 from InterTradeIreland through its Innova programme, assessed the benefits of Northern Ireland Water (NIW) using SCFI's AquaCritox technology to fully destruct organic wet waste. It demonstrated how super critical water oxidation (SCWO) could provide a truly sustainable and effective alternative to the utility's current methods of incineration, landfill and land spreading.
Comments chief operating officer David Kerr: "The InterTradeIreland Innova programme has not only provided us with funding, but invaluable contacts and a platform to illustrate the true benefits of our AquaCritox innovation to key utilities. We're delighted to be recognised as an InterTradeIreland Business Ambassador, and believe this further cements the strength of our AquaCritox offering as a leading sustainable solution for the global disposal of organic wet waste. The trial was so successful that we're already in talks about a potential new project."
SCFI's AquaCritox technology provides a complete organic waste destruction process that is fully sustainable, environmentally friendly, efficient and cost-effective. Especially suitable for the treatment of sewage, drinking water sludge and industrial organic aqueous waste streams, the technology uses super critical water oxidation (SCWO) to destroy organic waste safely, without generating hazardous emissions, and is completely odourless. Years of development and testing has gone into creating a technology that is proven to deliver 99.99 percent destruction of wet organic wastes in an economical, quick, sustainable process. With payback periods of approximately five years, the proven, patented AquaCritox technology generates renewable energy and recovers valuable by-products, such as phosphorus and CO2, which can be used for resale.
Over £24m has been invested in the development of AquaCritox technology, including extensive testing for the last three years at SCFI's operating facility in Ringaskiddy. The technology has been successfully processing wet waste for a number of global leaders in the wastewater treatment, pharmaceutical, chemical, oil and gas industries. SCFI has also received its first commercial order from environmental company Eras Eco to improve the sustainability credentials of wastewater treatment at the site.
Liam Nellis, InterTradeIreland CEO commented: "We have supported companies right across Ireland, in every county and constituency and we are extremely proud of the examples of enterprise and innovation that are represented by our group of InterTradeIreland Business Ambassadors. We hope that through highlighting the achievements of our SMEs like SCFI we will inspire other businesses to take advantage of cross-border trade and collaboration."
