Waverley Borough Signs With Straight To Tackle Food Waste

10 January 2012

UK manufacturer and supplier of waste and recycling container solutions, Straight plc has announce it has been awarded a contract by Waverley Borough Council for the supply and delivery of more than 90,000 food waste containers

In response to feedback from residents following a successful trial across 10,000 properties throughout 2010/11, Waverley Borough Council has decided to extend its food waste collection to the rest of the Borough.

The new scheme will launch in April 2012 and will be rolled out to over 51,000 properties. As part of the collection, residents will each receive a 7-litre Straight Kitchen Caddy and a 23-litre Straight Kerbside Caddy providing a food waste collection system for both households.

With more than 75 percent of UK local authorities with food waste collections using the Straight range, these popular products have grown to become the leading food waste container range on the UK market.

Waverley's food waste trial was extremely well received with more than 30 tonnes of food waste collected from participating properties each month. Although Waverley Borough Council currently recycles almost 40 percent of all waste, the Council expects the new food waste collection to dramatically increase this to between 57 percent and 66 percent.

Jonathan Straight, chief executive at Straight plc said: "We are delighted that Waverley has chosen to continue to use our range of food waste products for their full scheme rollout.

"The tonnages collected demonstrate what a great collection system our Kitchen Caddy and Kerbside Caddy is, especially when used together. It also shows how effective food waste collections are at helping local authorities meet their recycling targets. We are positive that Waverley will see a further significant increase in its recycling rate once the scheme is fully implemented."
