WRGs Latest Contract Win In Hertfordshire

19 May 2011

Waste Recycling Group has been awarded a new contract by Hertfordshire County Council to manage eleven of the Authority's Household Waste Recycling Centers (HWRCs)

The contract, with a total value of £6m, has been awarded initially for three years five months and came into effect this month.

The centers, which were each tendered for individually, are located at Hoddesdon, Turnford, Hemel Hempstead, Buntingford, Bishops Stortford, Potters Bar, Royston, Harpenden, Stevenage, Cole Green and Ware.

WRG's experienced operations team completed contract preparations within two weeks during which approximately eighty staff were transferred to WRG from Edwards Waste Management who previously managed the sites.

This latest contract follows the decision by Hertfordshire County Council in October last year to award WRG with a seven-year, £13 million contract to manage Hertfordshire County Council's Waterdale waste transfer station near Watford which receives around 180,000 tonnes per year of kerbside collected municipal solid waste (MSW) from six local authorities.

WRG also provided landfill disposal services on behalf of the Authority.

Hertfordshire is one of over 60 local authorities that contract waste management services from WRG.

"We are delighted to be able to strengthen our relationship with Hertfordshire County Council through these latest contract wins," said Waste Recycling Group's Group Commercial Manager Gordon Fergus. "We're looking forward to making an even bigger impact on the Authority's waste reduction and recycling objectives."

WRG now manages more than 84 HWRCs on behalf of 17 local authorities across the UK. Together, they make a major contribution towards helping local authorities meet environmental and recycling targets.
