WRAP Drives Innovation In Anaerobic Digestion

WRAP has today opened two tender invitations to challenge the cost and efficiency of anaerobic digestion (AD) technology
　
Ian Wardle, Head of Organics at WRAP, said: "We know that AD is a reliable and safe resource efficient process, supported by Government and industry. 　　

However, we believe that there are innovative ways to improve the performance of AD and we hope to find these, developing more profitable businesses within the green economy."
　
WRAP has a specific focus on the development and growth of a safe, sustainable and profitable AD industry and is working to deliver specific actions from Defra's AD Strategy and Action Plan. 　
　
'Driving Innovation in AD' (DIAD) is a series of WRAP led projects that aims to meet some of those actions. The first project will focus on optimising all scales of AD to make the process better, quicker and cheaper, resulting in more profitable businesses. The second is to challenge the cost and investigate technology options for small scale and rural AD and associated pre and post-processing plant.
　
Those with ideas, comments or suggestions should get in touch with WRAP.
　
Successful ideas will be taken forward to feasibility studies and those which show the most significant benefits and potential will be taken forward to demonstration projects.
　
In delivering this work, WRAP will work in partnership with the Small Business Research Initiative (SBRI) on both projects, and the Royal Agricultural Society of England (RASE) on the small scale AD projects.
