Viridor Acquires Storm Recycling Ltd

8 June 2011

Viridor has acquired Storm Recycling Limited, a family owned cardboard and plastics recycling business, with associated collection, accelerating the company's growth into Cheshire

Storm Recycling will be integrated into Viridor's Northern Region, alongside recent acquisitions Swinnerton Environmental and Adapt Recycling Ltd. The acquisition is in line with Viridor's strategy of expanding its recycling activities, and will become Viridor's first operational facility within the Cheshire area.

This acquisition will compliment Viridor's current contracts and services within the region. The company currently services customers within the Cheshire area, through facilities operating in St Helens and at Trafford Park in Manchester.

Viridor is also the provisional preferred bidder for the Joint Household Residual Waste Contract between the unitary authorities of Cheshire East and Cheshire West and Chester councils.

Storm Recycling comprises a strategically located recycling depot off the M6 in Cheshire, which handles over 20,000 tonnes of excellent grades of cardboard and plastic films per annum. The company employs 34 staff, all of whom will be integrated into Viridor's northern region.

Commenting on the acquisition, John Viviani, Regional Director (North) said: "Recycling continues to be a fast growing part of Viridor's business. This acquisition has an excellent geographic and business fit with our operations and existing services in the North West, and I look forward to welcoming our new colleagues and new customers on board."

John Buddle, Managing Director of Storm Recycling added; "Since its launch in 2003, Storm Recycling has been servicing clients to the highest standards. By securing the acquisition of Storm, Viridor will be able to ensure that these high standards are maintained which is good news for the employees, customers, suppliers and all other stakeholders of the business."
