The facility enables Taylor to offer users of its products the security of compliance with parts 2, 5 and 6 of the EN-840 standard, where applicable
Taylor state: "In today's highly litigious climate, compliance to the relevant standard for all types of plant and equipment is an essential basic safeguard for Local Authorities as a first line defence in all operations involving risk. Moreover, in the event of accidents, standards compliance can be a mitigating factor in subsequent insurance claims, providing evidence of best practice in the adoption of equipment.
In the area of mobile waste containers, the relevant European Standard is EN840 - the most demanding specification for waste containers worldwide. Covering either 2 or 4-wheeled containers, with varying capacities and specifications, EN840, is the recognised standard that container manufacturers should adhere to."
Taylor says that this important because it coincides with EN-1501 (refuse vehicles and their associated lifting devices), ensuring that containers and vehicles operate safely and efficiently.
This facility means that all Taylor 4- wheeled containers operate correctly when they are emptied into a refuse vehicle - if the container is picked up by the comb bar (frontal receiver) or by the din points (trunnions.)
Tested To Destruction
"The ability to test its containers effectively also means that handles on Taylor waste containers are placed in the optimal areas for ergonomics and manoeuvrability. This design also enhances safety, by ensuring that a safe distance is maintained from any moving parts, when presenting the container to the lifting device," Taylor sates.
"The Test House is at the core of our commitment to standards compliance across our product range," said Mark Roberts, Taylor design, development and technical manager. "The facility allows us to test that our waste and recycling containers conform to the relevant standards. What's more, we independently recertify our range of products every 6 months - with Lloyds British (UKAS Accredited Testing Body) - in accordance with WISH guidelines.
We are proud of our rigorous 'test to destruction' programme that enables our trade waste bins and recycling containers to cope with the widest range of environmental conditions - heat, cold and corrosive - they might face at home or abroad. The programme also ensures that our products have the structural integrity to withstand continuous day-to-day use and abuse, so bins stay in service, year after year."
