Environmental firm, SLR Consulting has appointed Jean Welstead as a Technical Director in its Strategy and Procurement team
Jean will work across the waste, energy, renewables and sustainability sectors, and is tasked with pursuing opportunities in low carbon economy, renewable energy, waste management and climate adaptation.
Jean, who previously worked for SQW (providers of research, analysis and advice in sustainable economic and social development), has substantial experience of the statutory planning system and the EIA process having previously led Dulas and Enviros environmental planning teams; and developed several planning guidance documents for Scottish Government, the Department of Business Enterprise and Regulatory Reform and the former Sustainable Development Commission.
Recently she has been working on aspects of social acceptance and socio-economic impact of energy infrastructure projects for European Commission, Sustainable Energy Authority Ireland, developers and community sector clients.
In the waste sector, Jean has established and managed collection schemes, pioneered initiatives such as the first UK Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment collection scheme and delivered training for local authority managers for ten years on behalf of WRAP. She has recently been undertaking renewable energy capacity studies, which account for waste and biomass in addition to traditional renewable energy sources.
Jean, who will work from SLR's Edinburgh office, said: "I was attracted to SLR as the company has the capability to respond to the enormous range of opportunities presented by the transition to the low carbon economy."
