Shanks MRF Receives Planning Approval

01 March 2011

Shanks Waste Management Ltd planning application to develop a Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) in Kettering, Northamptonshire, has been approved by Northamptonshire County Council.

The company has reportedly invested £7 million on the site, which previously processed construction and demolition waste. The site will now focus on industrial and commercial material. The process will also include co-mingled recyclates and general waste extracting and sorting materials for recycling and also producing a renewable fuel.

The newly developed facility will see an increase in the amount of material that can be processed from 125,000 to 215,000 tonnes per annum and also help the local economy in the process by creating 25 new jobs.

Ian Goodfellow, Shank's UK managing director, commented: "The new facility, which incorporates technology and experience from across the Shanks Group, will further increase our ability to extract value from the material we handle. The location and capacity of the MRF will mean that customers from across the region benefit from increased recycling and diversion from landfill."
