The Recycle Week campaign for the year 2011 is all set to kick off on 20 June, for a period of seven days, and will end on 26 June. The central theme of the campaign this year is "Recycling - Home and Away", which aims to support recycling at home and in public areas, like offices, shopping centres and parks. According to WRAP's Ideas Guide: "It's all about how making even the smallest every day actions and changes will have a cumulative effect and ultimately help our local environment. From doing more of what we already do at home - such as remembering to recycle glass jars as well as bottles; or recycling things from upstairs as well as downstairs; to recycling while out and about."
The Recycle Week campaign has been a yearly event since 2004, and this year it is bringing together Recycle Now and Keep Britain Tidy in a partnership, through which 20-25 local councils in England have agreed to test a scheme, which will see the recycling of all the plastic bottles and metal cans collected in their area during the Big Tidy Up events.
The campaign offers many suggestions that specifically target local authorities, individuals, schools, businesses, retailers and brands on ways to get involved in the event and contribute to its overall success. The local authorities in particular are advised to use this as an opportunity to talk about their new recycling schemes and initiatives, boost the recycling rate of a particular material that has low capture rate or increase awareness and promotion of local recycle and reuse centres.
