Waste Recycling Group is backing a TV and cinema advertising campaign which will encourage a potential audience of nine million viewers to recycle their broken or unwanted electrical and electronic goods and help boost small WEEE recycling rates
Part of FCC, the international environmental services, infrastructure and energy group, WRG has made a financial contribution to the costs of screening a 30-second cartoon which is set to be aired on various ITV regional franchises this coming Christmas.
The 30-second film has been jointly funded by four reprocessors and five compliance schemes. Non-financial support came from the Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP), which includes its "Recycle Now" branding being used on the film.
There are also plans for the film to be viewed online, in local cinemas and on shopping centre screens.
The advert focuses on small waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) and urges householders not to dispose of old electrical equipment in their residual waste but take them to their nearest household waste recycling centre (HWRC).
The cartoon shows waste electronics being sent for reprocessing and eventually used in new products.
Viewers are encouraged to visit WRAP's Recycle Now website to find their nearest recycling centre (www.recyclenow.com).
