Amid news of Scotland's missed 2010 target in it's plan for "Zero Waste", Perth & Kinross Council has upgraded to the latest web version of Whitespace's Power Suite software to manage and optimise its commercial waste operations with an aim to increase recycling rates
Expected benefits include more effective waste collection and recycling and better reporting.
The software will also enable the Council's staff to enhance the management and efficiency of their waste collections - involving management, data analysis, reporting and invoicing responsibilities.
Bruce Reekie, Perth & Kinross Council said: "We are using Whitespace's technology to improve efficiencies and enhance the quality of waste performance data. This will help us build on our recycling and composting rate to help us achieve Scotland's Zero Waste Plan's targets."
Power Suite will help the Council manage the volume and complexity of its commercial waste operations to over 1300 organisations. These operations range across a very large and diverse geography and incorporate several hundred different and often complex schedules that deal with issues including seasonality and differing waste streams.
The Council's rounds and routing activities is managed by Power Suite's scheduling engine, allowing the allocation of various containers and services against locations - to be mapped over time. All ad-hoc activities and support processes are dealt with by the system's worksheets module. The system also automatically creates contracts, invoices and duty of care agreements.
For invoicing and customer care activities, the system's single database will integrate with the Council's existing finance system. This means that all invoicing and queries will accurately reflect the information and history across the entire Commercial Waste department. Customer enquiries will also be handled quickly and effectively. This will all contribute to increasing revenue creation/collection and free staff resources, by reducing the amount of manual data input.
Power Suite produces exportable reports on all aspects of system information and also logs and monitors contracts, together with variations for both scheduled and unscheduled work - in addition to complaints and resulting remedial action. This means that the Council will also be able to produce accurate reports on the success of its Commercial Waste department in terms of efficiencies, waste targets and other indicators.
