The National Household Hazardous Waste Forum is about to take on a new look. Falling membership put the future of the stakeholder-led forum in doubt last month, prompting consultancy Resource Futures to throw it a "life-line" in the form of a take-over for a "nominal sum".
The Forum, which offers guidance and workshops on practical issues around the management of household hazardous waste, has been managed by Resource Futures for some time. Members' subscriptions to the Forum will not be renewed this year. Instead, the "members only" section of the website will become free to access while the forum aims to maintain communication with other interested organisations such as the Resource Recovery Forum, CIWM and the Local Authority Recycling Advisory Committee on household hazardous waste.
Chair of the NHHWF Roy Watkinson, speaking to [ letsrecycle.com] said: "I am very grateful that Resource Futures has in effect offered us a lifeline and if anyone was going to keep this afloat, it would be them."
Resource Futures chief executive, Jane Stephenson, said: "The company recognises that hazardous household waste is still a 'live' issue, particularly as more materials are being diverted from landfill into material recovery systems, and therefore the hazardous nature of the remaining residual waste stream becomes more concentrated."
