London Waste Partners With TEG, County Mulch And Viridor

10 March 2011

London Waste Ltd announced partnership with TEG Environmental, County Mulch and Viridor to process an additional 30,000 to 40,000 tonnes of organic waste per annum for seven North London boroughs, beginning 1 April, 2011. The contracts span for a period of three years and have an option of being extended to April 2017 if deemed necessary.

The decision to award contracts to other companies follows the continuing growth in organic waste North London households recycle, which has significantly increased in the past five years.

Currently, the active involvement of the residents has forged a strong partnership with London Waste to meet the increase in organic waste, which the company continues to process in its own compost centre at the EcoPark in Edmonton, North London. Last year London Waste successfully diverted nearly 70,000 tonnes of North London's organic waste from landfill. The contracts will now further assist North London residents as they target specific areas. For instance:

TEG Environmental - for the processing of mixed food and green waste

County Mulch - for the processing of green waste and compost oversize

Viridor - for the processing of green waste

David Sargent, managing director of London Waste Ltd, said: "North London residents are diligently recycling their food and garden waste and it is thanks to them that we were able to divert 70,000 tonnes of organic waste from landfill last year. We want to continue to recycle this precious resource and cope with any further increases efficiently so have decided to go into partnership with three other highly regarded firms."

He added: "It is great that we can give something back to the residents in North London. Within 16 weeks of green waste arriving at our Compost Centre it is turned in to peat-free compost, enabling thousands of tonnes of the nutrient rich material to be returned to the community for use in allotments, parks, gardens, farms and other open spaces."
