At the request of ORL at last week's party conference, Liberal Democrat Environmental policy was amended to incorporate "re-use" in addition to existing reducing and recycling
Jennifer Treen, head of re-use strategy at Smart Seconds, the IT business that was founded by Midlands-based Overton Recycling Limited (ORL), successfully altered Liberal Democrat Environmental policy at last week's party conference.
A member of the Liberal Democrat party for Redditch and Inkberrow, Jennifer addressed the Party for the first time, asking that there be an amendment to current policy to incorporate "re-use" in addition to existing reducing and recycling.
Explaining to delegates in the throes of debating a policy motion on a green stimulus to aid economic recovery, Jennifer spoke of the advantages re-use has on both industry and the environment, providing a firsthand account of working in the recycling and re-use sector.
Established to meet the EU waste hierarchy and to help stop e-waste from ending up in third world countries, Smart Seconds gives ORL customers an option to choose if they would prefer their obsolete equipment to be re-used, rather than recycled.
Baroness Kate Parminter then reminded the Conference goers of the planet's finite resources and asking party members to forward the reduce, re-use and recycle message through councils up and down the country.
