Harlton Lane Eco Park Planning Decision

4 July 2011

SITA UK said today that it was "delighted" that Surrey County Council's Planning and Regulatory Committee has decided to grant planning permission for the development of an Eco Park at Charlton Lane, Shepperton, subject to it being referred to the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs

The Eco Park will include anaerobic digestion and batch oxidation system gasification facilities, which will generate electricity from 40,000 tonnes of food waste and 60,000 tonnes of household waste a year respectively. The facility will also include a recyclables bulking facility and improvements to the existing community recycling centre, as well as extensive landscaping.

Gareth Phillips, planning manager at SITA UK, said: "We are delighted the County Planning Authority has agreed to permit the development of the Eco Park. Surrey needs facilities like these to deal with the county's waste in an environmentally friendly and cost effective way. The Eco Park is a key part of Surrey County Council's waste management programme which aims to deliver a world class solution for the county."

The referral to the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs is a routine requirement for applications that are a departure from the development plan, which is the planning policy document for this area of Surrey. She has 21 days to advise if she would like to review the decision.
