Engineering and consultancy company, Haden Freeman, is applying its expertise to a new offering aimed at the resource efficiency sector
With increases in landfill tax meaning alternative ways to remove waste is being sought, Haden Freeman is working with industry expert Peter Jones OBE to create a "fresh new approach to resource efficiency providing everything from design, construction, operation, maintenance, modification through to decommissioning."
Having delivered in excess of £150m in savings to the chemical, pharmaceutical, healthcare, food and beverage industries, the Manchester-based company is now working with organisations to optimise energy yields in the emergent waste to resources revolution.
Wayne Baxter, Haden Freeman managing director, said: "We work with such a diverse range of sectors, it's a natural progression for us to apply our skills to the energy which fuels them all. We've seen a number of innovative technologies introduced to energy saving, but the implementation fails to perform. Our aim is to transfer everything we know about engineering to resource efficiency and as a result ensure the processes deliver consistently good results."
Peter Jones OBE of energy consultancy Ecolateral said: "As landfill withers on the vine as a sustainable or economic exit option for unwanted materials, a Pandora's box of alternatives beckon for those in the resource recovery sector. Options from compost, recyclate, transport fuels and combined heat and power are alluring. However, bottom line benefit is vulnerable to poorly designed and non-optimised systems infrastructure, which invariably comprises of distinct sets of biological, mechanical or thermal sub-set solutions.
"Haden Freeman has a firm track record, refined at similar stages of technology evolution, in the biochemical, pharmaceutical, petrochemical and other sectors. As such, they are a natural partner for companies facing the challenges in the emerging waste and resources £10bn re-investment programme needed between now and 2016."
