Derbyshire's Battery Incentive

11 October 2010

In a bid to encourage people to look after the environment by switching away from single-use batteries Derbyshire County Council is giving residents the chance to win a battery charger complete with rechargeable batteries. The council has 500 AA battery and charger sets to give away each month - in October, November and December.

Derbyshire County Councillor John Allsop, cabinet member for technology and recycling, said: "Used batteries are bad news in landfill because they sit there forever and the valuable chemicals and metals cannot be recovered for recycling.

Using rechargeable batteries means less waste and saves people money."
