Cory Environmental has submitted a planning application to Cornwall Council for a recycling and residual waste transfer facility at the planned Bio Park site near Scorrier, Redruth, Cornwall
The proposal would allow the development of an integrated waste management facility aimed at helping businesses in Cornwall to recycle more. The development will create a bespoke waste management facility for Cory in a central location in the county.
The proposals include a clean Materials Recycling Facility with the capacity to sort up to 35,000 tonnes of co-mingled recyclables from local businesses each year, including paper, cardboard, steel and aluminium cans and plastic bottles. An adjacent bulk transfer facility will have a capacity of 115,000 tonnes per annum and will be used for the temporary storage and transfer of residual waste.
Nigel Carr, General Manager for Cory Environmental Municipal Services said: "Our proposals for an integrated recycling and residual waste transfer facility at the planned Bio Park near Scorrier will help Cornish businesses to improve recycling levels and divert more waste from landfill.
"These proposals fit within the agreed development framework for the Bio Park site and will deliver a facility that builds on years of public consultation. Cory has developed the plans to provide a much-needed commercial and industrial waste facility for businesses in Cornwall. Environmentally beneficial features of the proposals include the generation of electricity with solar photovoltaic roof panels."
The development would be a major financial investment in the area, creating new jobs at both the construction stage and in the operation of the facility.
Nigel Carr added: "Cory has been operating in Cornwall, near Truro, since 1990 and this significant investment in the area is part of Cory's plans to provide key waste management solutions to businesses across the county."
Details of the proposals can be found on Cory's website at www.coryenvironmental.co.uk. Cornwall Council will be undertaking public consultation on the planning application and views on it can be submitted to the Council's planning department.
