CIWM Hosts DCLG Meeting Over Weekly Collection Fund

12 December 2011

CIWM brought together a number of local authority representatives for a meeting with DCLG, to feed in views on the development of the department's £250m Weekly Collection Support Scheme

This follows on from conversations DCLG has been having with a range of councils interested in the scheme.

While details about how the fund will operate and the application process are still being finalised, the meeting provided a useful opportunity to discuss the types of bids that could be eligible for funding, factors DCLG should take into account in shaping the assessment criteria, and the timescale for the bidding process, which is likely to be relatively tight.

DCLG agreed to take up CIWM's offer to assist with further stakeholder consultation, feedback on the prospectus when it becomes available, and visits to see different collection and treatment schemes.

DCLG indicated that a detailed prospectus for the scheme will be published after the new year but is keen to engage with interested local authorities in the meantime.
