Building Underway On Renewable Energy Power Station Now Underway

Growing Beds Recycling Services announced yesterday (21 October 2010) that works to build a 2.6MW renewable energy power station are now underway. Situated in a disused Ministry of Defence research and development building in Thurleigh, Bedfordshire, the project is due for completion during summer 2011.

Under the terms of a joint venture agreement with waste to energy company Bioflame, the Ventus Venture Capital Trust Funds and B & W Waste Management Services, Growing Beds will divert 30,000 tonnes of low-grade wood waste from landfill per annum. The wood waste will, instead, be used as valuable feedstock for Thinwoods Heat and Power Limited’s (THPL) sophisticated clean-burn combustion system.

Designed to displace 9,000 CO2 emissions annually, the environmentally friendly power station is set to create eight skilled job opportunities locally. Operational 24/7, Growing Beds will also be responsible for day-to-day site supervision, whilst maintenance of the plant will be handled by Bioflame.
