Biffa Welcomes Waste Review

Biffa has welcomed the direction set out in the Waste Policy Review, announced by Environment Secretary Caroline Spelman, However, the company has said that it would have welcomed more ambition in its outlook

Commenting, Biffa chief executive Ian Wakelin said: "We broadly welcome the direction that the Waste Policy Review is taking, but would have liked to have seen a more ambitious set of commitments - such as undertaking to increase municipal food waste collections."

He added: "There are some interesting initiatives concerning voluntary agreements and designing out waste but there is little detail on new initiatives that will help drive increased resource efficiency. We look forward to hearing more from the Government on the shape that these will take in order to cut waste and continue to drive the development of the green economy."

Biffa is leading the waste and recycling industry on a number of initiatives and is set to launch the UK's first "super" anaerobic digestion plant for food waste at Cannock, Staffordshire, this Friday (17 June).
