Viridor's North West Expansion; Alupro To Lead Metalmatters Programme and Straight Wheels Out The Carbon Reduction Label
Viridor's North West Expansion
UK recycling, renewable energy and waste management company, Viridor, has acquired JWS Churngold Limited for a total cash consideration of £14.25m on a debt-free basis. The acquired company is based in Leyland, Lancashire and provides waste logistics and transport solutions in connection with the Lancashire Private Finance Initiative (PFI) waste contract.
Colin Drummond, Chief Executive of Viridor said: "JWS Churngold's operations in Lancashire fit well with our existing and planned operations in the north west, including those associated with the Viridor/Laing Greater Manchester waste PFI. The acquisition is expected to be earnings enhancing in its first full year."
JWS Churngold is the waste logistics and transport solutions provider under contract with Global Renewables Lancashire Operations Limited, the contractor to the Lancashire waste management PFI and provides transportation of all waste derived from the Lancashire and Blackpool local authorities' transfer stations.
Alupro To Lead Metalmatters Programme
Alupro has announced that it is to lead metalmatters, the metal packaging industry's kerbside recycling improvement programme, on behalf of its funding partners.
Alupro will build on the successes achieved so far and draw on learnings from its own successful Aerofoil programme, which helped local authorities expand kerbside programmes to include aerosols and foil containers.
As part of this process Coca Cola Enterprises Ltd ('CCE') has become the first packer/filler to partner with the programme, along with the UK's leading foil container manufacturers i2r Packaging Solutions, Nicholl Food Packaging and Coppice Alupack.
CCE commercial recycling manager Nick Brown said: "Metalmatters is an excellent example of an industry initiative that is capable of really delivering results and creating positive change. As a company committed to transforming recycling by educating and inspiring consumers, championing improvements to existing collection systems and by investing in strategic recycling infrastructure projects metalmatters is a perfect fit for us and we look forward to contributing to its future success."
Straight Wheels Out The Carbon Reduction Label
Straight plc has gained the Carbon Reduction Label for its wheeled bin range. The environmental products and services group has extended the scope of its products bearing the Carbon Reduction Label and for the first time, a wheeled refuse container has been tested and accredited.
The Carbon Reduction Label is awarded to companies who have measured the carbon footprint of their products and made a commitment to the long-term reduction in emissions.
Jonathan Straight, CEO of Straight plc said, "The Label shows that we are committed to reducing our carbon footprint and that of our products. The new certification further demonstrates our environmental credentials since taking over our manufacturing supply just over twelve months ago."
