Weeecare Clinches Hampshire County Council Contract

Electrical recycler WeeeCare has won the latest Local Authority WEEE compliance contract to supply Hampshire County Council.

WeeeCare will now collect, process and recycle the electrical waste from 26 household waste recycling centres (HWRCs) across Hampshire, increasing WeeeCare's total to over 60 sites. Through this partnership WeeeCare will deal with in excess of 7,500 tonnes of electrical waste including fridges, freezers, televisions, computer monitors and small items such as mobile phones and hairdryers.

Hampshire County Council serves over a million people and also works closely in partnership with the unitary authorities of Southampton and Portsmouth. It is one of the top performing councils in the country and in the last government assessment was given the highest possible scoring of "performing excellently".

AD Proves Popular At Foodex Event

Foodex, the UK show for processing, packaging and logistics, is seeing its waste management show content grow following its decision to introduce a anaerobic digestion (AD) and biogas zone to the show which runs from 25-27 March at the NEC, Birmingham.

The strong interest from exhibitors has surpassed original expectations and led to show organisers, William Reed Business Media, opening up additional floorspace to accommodate the burgeoning demand for stand from AD providers.

Marcus Gover, director of the Closed Loop Economy at WRAP believes the market, including investors, developers and end users, should be confident of AD as a reliable, safe and profitable resource efficiency process. He comments: "AD is a growing part of the resource efficiency solution, capable of creating renewable energy, and stimulating the green economy and improving the sustainability of commercial agriculture. We really see it as huge opportunity for the UK."
