Merseyside Waste Disposal Authority's Name Change
Cllr Joe De Asha, Chairperson, Merseyside Waste Disposal Authority released a statement on Merseyside Waste Disposal Authority's recent name change, saying:
"After careful consideration and as part of the planning for the future role of the Merseyside Waste Disposal Authority, we are changing our name. Our new name, as of Wednesday 7 December 2011, will be 'Merseyside Recycling and Waste Authority'.
"Our new name reflects the changing nature of waste management, the emphasis on more sustainable methods of waste management, the move to a Low Carbon Economy and the new Joint Municipal Waste Management Strategy objectives - moving away from purely disposal of waste and changing to one which better reflects the resources management and recycling functions that the organisation now undertakes.
"We'll be amending our corporate identity to reflect the new name and also adding in a new aspiration for the Authority's work - 'Merseyside - a place where nothing is wasted' that will be used as part of the branding.
"The change in the Authority's name was approved by elected members at a meeting on 18 November 2011. While the name change will be reflected immediately on our digital communications, it will be rolled out across other platforms in phases so we get the most from our existing stationery supplies, signage and other non-digital public facing communications."

SWR Wins MET Police Vehicle Waste Contract
Waste management company SWR, has won a contract within the Support Services arm of Babcock, Emergency and Critical Services, a mobile assets organisation in the UK that operates and maintains assets for key public services within the blue light sector.
The contract will involve managing both dry and hazardous waste created from the repair and maintenance of Metropolitan Police vehicles in London.
The deal will save Babcock in the region of 15 percent on its current waste disposal costs, with all waste managed under a single, simplified contract. SWR will also provide regular reporting on waste and recycling statistics to support Babcock's strong environmental policy.
Bob Harrison, health & safety and environment manager at Babcock said: "The simplicity that SWR's consolidated service brings will have a hugely positive impact at an operational level as we now only have to deal with one supplier. It also has benefits at a strategic level as we are now able to clearly demonstrate responsible waste disposal and recycling."
SWR's head of business development, Richard Brown, said: "SWR is the only waste management company with services designed specifically for the automotive sector, and we currently service 18 of the UK's top 20 bodyshops. We will draw on this expertise in supporting Babcock to maximise their recycling and minimise the carbon footprint accruing from their waste, which is key to SWR's philosophy."
