Many UK local authorities are currently in the process of procuring their long-term waste management services for the treatment and disposal of residual waste. One of the greatest uncertainties for making long-term decisions with regards to required capacity is waste growth, and incorrect assumptions of future waste growth may result in significant financial implications, either in terms of under sizing your facility and facing penalties for the extra waste in terms of Landfill Tax and through the Landfill Allowance Trading Scheme (LATS), or in designing the plant too large and having unused capacity and thus a more expensive facility than was required. |
