| Teaser Text | CIWM president, Terry March, reveals his waste management hero and how receiving an award presented in his honour proved a stepping stone in his own career
I must open my president’s piece this month by adding my congratulations to the CIWM journal on its centenary. The journal in its various forms has always been the glue that held the Institute/Institution together.
Like many of my “slightly older” generation, my first memories of the journal are in its A5 pocket book format. The smaller size was very handy, but it did put severe limitations on effective layouts! During my formative waste years the editor was the one-and-only Dennis Taylor, who was a whirlwind at the centre of all things to do with waste.
When the journal started in 1910 the original “Institution” had been in existence for 12 years, and the tenth president was already in office (the first President, D McColl – who can be seen earlier in this issue – served three terms during this period). I have the tremendous honour of being the 96th president in the 112-year history of the Institution and its forbearers. |
