With 150 beaches across England receiving the Blue Flag and Quality Coast awards this year, Keep Britain Tidy’s chief executive, Phil Barton, thinks the “staycation” could be here to stay: “As more and more people decide to swap trips abroad for the convenience of holidays at home, they are discovering a renewed love for our glorious coastline and quality resorts,” he explained.
Among the favourite beaches are Skegness, Mablethorpe and Sutton on Sea, all holders of Blue Flags and managed by East Lindsey District Council.
During the summer, the population of Skegness increases ten-fold, from 20 000 to 200 000, meaning a rigorous cleaning programme is essential. |
