Members of the Peterborough Renewable Energy Limited (PREL) team, official sponsors of Peterborough United Football Club (The Posh), were delighted with the club's victory at Sunday's League One Playoff Final
The Posh's 3-0 win against Huddersfield Town will take Peterborough into The Championship next season, one of the most prestigious achievements in the club's history.
PREL, who begin construction this summer on EnergyPark Peterborough - Europe's first sustainable biomass power plant - signed a two-year sponsorship deal with Peterborough United FC in May. The emblem of the EnergyPark is branded on all three of the club's shirts.
With their roots in the Peterborough community, PREL's deal with The Posh is a demonstration of the company's commitment to the local area. Over 60 supporters from the PREL team travelled up to Old Trafford on Sunday to join 18,000 United fans to cheer on their team.
Once built, EnergyPark Peterborough will create over 100 local green collar jobs and 300 in construction, produce enough energy to power 60,000 homes and eliminate the need for landfilling waste.
The 80MWe EnergyPark will take in mixed waste and - through a combination of recycling, gasification and plasma-enhanced waste recovery - recycle and remanufacture it, producing reusable products and renewable energy.
PREL's parent company, Green Energy Parks (GEP), intends to develop a nationwide network of plants to revolutionise the way that we deal with mixed waste in the UK.
Speaking at Old Trafford after the game, PREL's Managing Director Chris Williams said: "We are delighted that The Posh were victorious at Old Trafford today and are incredibly proud to sponsor the club.
"Darren and the team have been a real credit to the city and we're already looking forward to the exciting adventures ahead in The Championship next season. It's looking like a great season ahead for the Posh and PREL."
