Apprenticeship in Sustainable Resource Management

A new apprenticeship for the waste industry was launched by EU Skills in December 2010 - the Apprenticeship in Sustainable Resource Management.

Apprentices train 'on the job' while assisting with your organisation's day-to-day workload and bring in the new skills they acquire while training towards nationally recognised qualifications.

The Apprenticeship in Sustainable Resource Management embraces a wide range of occupational roles in the collection, transport, treatment and final management of waste and recyclables, at operator and supervisory level.

Operator level roles include:

  • Waste Collection Driver/Loader
  • Recyclables Collection Driver/Loader
  • Weighbridge Operative
  • Transfer Station Operative
  • Compost Operative
  • MRF Operative
  • HWRC Operative
  • Recycling Operative - Reception & Segregation, Processing or the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive

Supervisory level roles include:

  • Recycling Collection Supervisor
  • Refuse Collection Supervisor
  • Transfer Station Supervisor
  • Treatment (Physical/Chemical/Thermal) Supervisor
  • Biological Treatment Supervisor
  • MRF Supervisor
  • Landfill Supervisor
  • Sustainability Officer
