Course Endorsement

CIWM are able to Endorse training courses of up to five days duration. Endorsement is different to Accreditation, as no CPD hours or SLD days will be allocated to the course. This is because the courses are usually of a level below that which we expect from our Chartered Members, and would therefore be unlikely to be of interest to them for CPD purposes. However, they may be of interest to members at other levels, such as Affiliate.

Procedure
Endorsement of training courses will be conducted via a desk based exercise based on the information submitted (if more information is required it will be requested). Applicants are expected to provide an electronic copy of the application form and supporting information. Hard copy information (if required) can be sent to CIWM directly. Technical experts will be consulted where necessary, and, provided the course meets the required standard it will be endorsed for a set period of time (endorsement period will be dependent upon material and topic).

Each year a selected number of endorsed courses will receive a Quality Assurance visit from a member of CIWM. The course provider will be expected to provide an 'observer' place on the course free of charge. This Quality Assurance visit will ensure that the material delivered is in line with the information provided on the initial application, and that updates have occurred where necessary. The tutors and deliverers will also be assessed to ensure that they have the knowledge and training skills required to deliver the course. A copy of the assessment form will be available before the visit if requested.

Once the endorsement period has expired, or if substantial changes are being made, courses are expected to apply for re-endorsement. This will involve completion of the second form below, detailing the changes that have occurred (i.e.; structure, format, deliverers, major course content changes). It is expected that minor updates will occur each time a course is run, and these therefore do not warrant a re-endorsement application.

Cost
For each formal endorsement of training courses the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management charges £350+VAT per course/ Module. Each endorsed course will incur this charge, regardless of when they will receive a QA visit.

Re-endorsements will be usually be charged at £350+VAT per course/ module, but this fee may be reduced if applying at least 3 months before the endorsement expires.

Endorsed training courses will be provided with the 'CIWM Endorsed By' logo and form of words that they will be able to use on any material related to the course. Course providers are also expected to insert this information into the presentation, either at the start, end or during a scheduled break, or on the course materials.

When requests for information on training courses are received by members of the CIWM Education and Training Department, those courses that have been endorsed will be made known to the inquirer, if applicable, and their endorsed status highlighted.
