There are over 7,500 registered Chartered Environmentalists across the globe, drawn from a diverse range of industries such as engineering, forestry as well as resources and waste management. These professionals work across industry, government, education and the public sector and are united by their shared commitment to environmental best practice and their high levels of expertise in their fields.

Becoming a registered Chartered Environmentalist sets you apart from other professionals in your field. It reflects a high level of skill and experience, demonstrates that you have been assessed by your peers to be achieving and upholding the highest possible standards, and shows a continuing commitment to the environmental profession.

How can I register as Chartered Environmentalist through CIWM?

In order to register as a Chartered Environmentalist through CIWM, you must be either a Chartered member or a Fellow of CIWM.

You would also be required to; 
- P
roduce a detailed personal statement demonstrating and highlighting your competence, knowledge and engagement in good environmental practice within your profession and the promotion of a sustainable environment
- A
ttend a Professional Review Interview (PRI)
- D
emonstrate at least 4 years of professional development and a commitment to CPD


The CEnv registration document contains details of the competences that you are required to demonstrate in your report and an application form which you can use to apply for a CEnv Professional Review Interview.

Society for the Environment

The Society for the Environment is an umbrella organisation for leading professional institutions and learned societies with a wide range of environmental interests. Between them, they represent the primary environmental disciplines.

CIWM played a major role in establishing the society which was granted a Royal Charter in May 2004.
