RECYCLING AND RECOVERY OPPORTUNITIES SET TO GROW THROUGH 2011

New research shows that the waste management sector is expected to grow in 2011, despite a tough economic climate, thanks to increased interest in commercial recycling and rising awareness of the value of waste materials.

The research, carried out by the Recycling and Waste Management (RWM) exhibition in partnership with CIWM, found that 70 percent of waste management professionals expected their businesses to grow in 2011 with nearly 65 percent believing that this year will see an increase in commercial recycling and recovery rates.

Whilst many (44 percent) identified last year's change of government and public sectors cuts as a key factor which will influence the industry this year, they nevertheless predicted that their businesses would grow in 2011.

Gerry Sherwood, event director said: "This research shows that the waste management sector is continuing to defy the odds with 48 percent predicting their businesses to grow by more than 10 percent this year while many industries are struggling in the wake of government cuts and the recession."

The research also identified an increased awareness of the value of business "waste" as a key influencer on the industry (56 percent). RWM will help enable the waste management industry to showcase these benefits to representatives of a range of sectors - from construction to retail.

Gerry continued: "More business leaders are recognising the financial benefits of sustainable waste practices, which is boosting waste management related businesses."

The findings back up trends identified by RWM and futuresource exhibitors, which have merged to create one event from 2011.
