CIWM welcomes Green Investment Bank Advisory Group announcement

CIWM has welcomed the announcement today by the Business Secretary Vince Cable of the appointees to the Green Investment Bank (GIB) Advisory Group.

Chaired by Sir Adrian Montague CBE, the Advisory Group is made up of nine members and will advise Ministers on the establishment of the GIB and its strategic direction:

  • Simon Brooks, UK Vice President, European Investment Bank
  • John Burnham, former Managing Director and global Head of Infrastructure, Citigroup
  • David Gregson, Chairman of Phoenix Equity Partners
  • Melville Haggard, Managing Director, Quartermain Advisers Ltd
  • Dima Rifai, Managing Partner, Paradigm Change Capital Partners LLP
  • Penny Shepherd, Chief Executive, UKSIF (UK Sustainable Investment and Finance Association)
  • James Smith, former Chairman of Shell UK
  • Lord Stern of Brentford, Professor of Economics and Government, London School of Economics and Chairman of the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment
  • Bob Wigley, Chairman, Yell Group, former Chairman of Merrill Lynch Europe, Middle East and Africa and chair of the Green Investment Bank Commission

"This is a heavyweight board with the breadth of expertise needed to ensure that the GIB can play a genuinely significant role in underpinning and accelerating the UK's transition to a green economy," says CIWM chief executive Steve Lee. "CIWM is also particularly pleased at the appointment of Melville Haggard, who brings significant experience in the delivery of waste infrastructure to the table."
