Porritt: A Sustainable World By 2050, Industry Must Drive Opportunities

RWMCIWM11-text_area

15 September 2011

A sustainable world can be achieved by 2050, environmental expert Sir Jonathon Porritt CBE has said today (15 September).

Sir Jonathon was speaking in the final session at RWM in partnership with CIWM's Keynote Theatre.

He commented: "I think it's fair to say that I am gobsmacked by this industry...there is an extraordinary pipeline of innovation."

Sir Jonathon went on to say: "Investors see this industry as a very important place where they can see opportunities over the course of the next 20 years. The figures involved are astonishing...it is enormously exciting."

RWM in partnership with CIWM is the UK's biggest event for organisations with an interest in waste and recycling. Formed late last year from the merger of the successful Recycling and Waste Management Exhibition (RWM) and Futuresource shows, it has featured more than 650 exhibitors plus a three-day seminar programme with over 90 speakers - the largest collection of free content in the industry.

Designed to inform, improve and inspire organisations, it covered all areas of waste and recycling, from plant, vehicles and equipment to practical advice on how effective waste management can help to cut costs and turn waste into a valuable resource.
