Scottish conference tackles the challenges of 'zero waste'
Delivering zero waste for Scotland will be the main theme of the Scottish Waste & Resources Conference 2009, which is being held at the Glasgow Hilton on 6th and 7th October 2009.
The event will comprise a two-day conference and exhibition, with keynote speakers including Rural Affairs and Environment Minister Richard Lochhead MSP and Malcolm Ward, chairman of the Environmental Services Association. The conference programme will look at the challenge of meeting the tough targets set by the Scottish Government in its 'zero waste' strategy, including increasing recycling to 70 per cent and cutting municipal waste sent to landfill to five per cent by 2025.
The newly launched programme will cover a wide range of issues, from food waste to carbon coaching, and delegates will be able to hear about a number of projects that have demonstrated positive results, as well as having opportunity to continue to shape the future direction of strategy and policy for waste management in Scotland.
Now in its 8th year, the event will include its largest exhibition ever, providing an excellent chance for delegates to network and meet and discuss their requirements with waste/reprocessing companies and suppliers. It will also play host to the Scottish Waste & Resources Awards Dinner, where outstanding achievements in the waste sector in Scotland are recognised. Taking place on the evening of Wednesday 7 October 2009, the awards ceremony will be hosted by journalist and TV presenter, Kaye Adams.
The main sponsors of the event are WRAP (Waste & Resources Action Programme) and Valpak, and the Steering Group partners comprises the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management, Scottish Environmental Services Association, Keep Scotland Beautiful, the Scottish Environment Protection Agency, Scottish Enterprise, Local Authority Recycling Advisory Committee, Scottish Government, the Caledonian Environment Centre and Community Recycling Network for Scotland.
