Minister appoints CIWM Chief Executive Steve Lee to chair new Anaerobic Digestion Task Group

CIWM Chief Executive Steve Lee has been appointed to chair a new joint initiative with the public and private sector to make greater use of anaerobic digestion, which was launched by Jane Kennedy yesterday.

A document, entitled 'Anaerobic Digestion - Shared Goals', has been drawn up in discussion with a wide cross section of stakeholders and sets out collective ambitions for the use of this technology. The new Task Group will be chaired by Steve Lee and will lead the development of an Implementation Plan setting out the practical measures to achieve the shared goals.

Defra is inviting organisations and businesses to add their names to those which have already formally endorsed the Shared Goals and will be publishing a regularly updated list of endorsing organisations in the future.

The document 'Anaerobic Digestion - Shared Goals' and the list of organisations which have endorsed it so far are available at: http://www.defra.gov.uk/environment/waste/ad/government.htm

The Defra announcement can be found at: http://www.defra.gov.uk/news/2009/090217c.htm
