Green Investment Bank to be based in Edinburgh and London

The Business Secretary Vince Cable announced this week that the first ever UK Green Investment Bank (GIB) will be based in Edinburgh and London. The headquarters of the GIB will be located in Edinburgh, with the GIB's main transaction team based in London. This arrangement will enable a greater commercial reach nationally than could be achieved from one location.

Publication of the statistical release on UK's Carbon Footprint 1990 to 2009

Defra has published official figures for annual UK carbon footprint for the years 1990 to 2009. It describes carbon dioxide emissions relating to goods and services produced by UK business and consumed by UK residents, and those emissions relating to imported goods. The release also provides new estimates of emissions of total greenhouse gases associated with UK consumption. See the full statistical release here.

Publication of EU Emissions Trading Systems auction schedule for May - July 2012

The UK Government published the schedule for EU ETS auctions to take place between May and July this year. The Government will auction 12 million allowances over this period, using surplus allowances from the UK Phase II New Entrant Reserve (NER).

Environmental Permitting Regulations Update

The Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) (Amendment) Regulations have now been finalised. They amend the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2010 ("the 2010 Regulations") and will come into force on 6th April 2012. The latest version, excluding the civil sanctions provisions, can be found here.

Communication on improving the delivery of benefits from EU environment measures

The European Commission adopted the 'Communication on improving the delivery of benefits from EU environment measures: building confidence through better knowledge and responsiveness' this week. The objective of the Communication is to intensify the dialogue with governments and all other stakeholders on how they can work better together to achieve better implementation of EU law by moving towards a more systematic approach to collecting and sharing knowledge and by enhancing responsiveness to environmental problems at a local level, closer to the citizen. http://ec.europa.eu/environment/legal/law/pdf/com_2012_95.pdf

WRAP Report - 'Courtauld Commitment 2 2010-12: Progress and case studies'

A Report that includes some Courtauld Commitment Phase 2 case studies, written by UK retailers, brands and manufacturers and reported by WRAP working with Defra, the Scottish Government, the Welsh Government and the Department of the Environment Northern Ireland. Wales - Tidy Towns bidding round 2012-13

Tidy Towns is a three year £12 million initiative. It provides funding to local authorities and Keep Wales Tidy to empower people to make improvements to their local environment and help achieve a clean, safe and tidy Wales. ENDS Survey of Green Professionals 2012

The ENDS Survey of Green Professionals 2012 will be the most comprehensive survey ever carried out of UK professionals whose jobs contribute to sustainability. Managed by ENDS (Environmental Data Services) in association with the Society for the Environment, the survey will shed unique new light concerning Green Professionals':
1) Pay and conditions
2) Role in the green economy, and
3) Opinions on politics and green issues

Free London 2012 workshops for freight operators and their customers

Transport for London (TfL) are offering 230 free workshops, both inside and outside the capital, to help hauliers and their customers in transport 'hotspots' keep running smoothly during the Games.

The OWL Road Show is the first event of its kind being hosted by the OWL Partnership.
