Innovative Practice in Waste Management and Resource Recovery

This award focuses on excellence in any aspect of innovation related to Waste Management or Resource Recovery.

Within the context of this award Innovation is defined as the following:

"Creation of better or more effective processes, products, technologies or ideas that bring about a substantial positive change"

Entrants will have articulated how they have approached an issue through original thinking and demonstrated the successful outcomes.

The application shall be measured against the following criteria:

  • Explain how was the issue was approached.

  • Explain what aspects are new, better, significantly improved to give rise to a   

    substantial positive change.

  • How was the issue developed and implemented?

  • Show successful outcomes, such as improvements in performance, costssavings, reduced environmental impact or any other aspect that shows better or more effective processes, products, technologies or ideas.

  • Previous winners and runners up have ranged from a technical innovation that reduced the amount of waste produced, a chemical process that reduced the hazardous nature of a waste stream, a schools education programme that use a new cartoon character to engage with younger children and a five step process that turned waste cardboard from local businesses into caviar!
